Our Story

Play Like a Girl!® is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Nashville, Tennessee. Initially established in 2004 by Dr. Kimberly Clay, we were long known for producing large-scale chronic disease prevention and health promotion events and brand activations across the state of Alabama. With a grant from Emmitt & Pat Smith Charities, we launched our first-ever sports program for girls in 2012 in Dallas, Texas, and the organization known today as Play Like a Girl was born.

Our Impact

We’re passionate about keeping girls in the game, using public donations to fund sport and health-enhancing physical activity. We inspire girls to dream and give them the tools to succeed—both on and off the field of play. See the progress we’ve made since we began in 2004.

Our Blog

Our time in the field gives us a personal view on what it’s like for a girl to find her spark for the first time. The girls, women and communities that we’ve met inspire our ideas and, often times, solutions. Every one of them has a story worth sharing. We’re keeping score!

We currently run programs in schools and communities across the U.S. and Canada. Need, community support, dedicated volunteer coaches and strong partner organizations all play a part in where we choose to work.
