Play Like a Girl!® is a national nonprofit founded in 2004 to help girls reach their full potential and create an equal playing field for women by providing girls ages 9-13 an opportunity—and in many cases, their only chance—to participate in sport and physical activity.

As a Development Intern, you’ll have a hand in helping us manage our supporter relations, grant applications, fundraising materials and events. We are looking for an intern to join us and be a part of the team through December 2019. This position is eligible for college credit and can be based remotely but preference will be given to candidates based in Nashville, TN.

What You'll Do
  • Manage a portfolio of donors, major gift supporters and corporate partners and engage key long-term, new, and prospective givers through relationship building to raise dollars for Play Like a Girl programs
  • Identify, research and develop new relationships for donations and sponsorships
  • Manage the production of competitive, timely, well-researched grant and sponsorship proposal
  • Identify ways to effectively engage donors, manage the donor experience and contribute to donor/member outreach
  • Assist in the development of volunteer fundraiser programs, including: researching and sharing best practices for fundraising events and campaigns; drafting and posting social media messaging targeting Play Like a Girl community members and volunteer fundraisers; communicating regularly via email and telephone with members and volunteers
  • Enter and manage donor data in Little Green Light, a cloud-based donor management database
  • Handle general donor support issues, working closely with our Fundraising and Development Committee to make sure all communication with donors is streamlined and consistent with our brand and mission
  • Own and coordinate or contribute to events for purposes of new supporter cultivation and existing supporter stewardship
  • Learn, study, and become an expert on Play Like a Girl’s programmatic work as well as become informed and articulate about issues related to women’s sports

  • Working towards a degree in business, nonprofit management, sports marketing or similar field
  • Experience in fundraising, preferably for a nonprofit; a Nonprofit Management certification will be looked favorably upon
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management and organization skills
  • Computer literate, internet and social media savvy, and experienced with Google Docs/Drive
  • Passion for our mission that invigorates and excites everyone with whom you share it
  • Drive and sophistication, excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of the organization
  • A team-orientation, strong work ethic, outstanding communication skills with the presence and personal style to represent the organization to multiple constituents
