Meet + Mentor matches middle school girls (ages 10-13) with caring adult women who support them in their efforts to develop the academic and life skills necessary to succeed in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) related career.

Where

  • Virtual mentoring sessions and networking events take place on Zoom.

When

  • Online (or in person when not socially distanced) once a week
  • 90 minutes each week for six weeks each semester

Cost

  • There are two registration options:
    1. Access to a single mentoring session is just $15.00 per session.
    2. Our All Access Plan is $150.00 and includes all 12 mentoring sessions, 2 mentee meetups (socials), a t-shirt, program materials, and sweet surprises each week! That’s a $30 saving.

Note: The All Access Plan is free of charge to girls at MNPS Partner Schools thanks to individual donations, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships and brand partnerships that collectively cover the cost of the program for girls  in need.

Mentees

Connect with professional women in STEM
Navigating the world of STEM can be challenging for young women – especially girls of color. Apply today to join our exclusive network of women in STEM—you’ll be mentored on everything from confidence to careers and more!

Meet + Mentor brings together diverse cohorts of middle school girls with professional women in STEM for mentorship over the course of six weeks. Weekly 90-minute mentoring sessions are complemented by makerspace workshops, corporate field trips and networking events.


In compliance with national COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, our 2020-21 programs will be held in a virtual/hybrid format. This program is open to a cohort of 150 girls anywhere in the United States by application only, at no cost to participants. Girls who complete the program are encouraged to return for mentoring as often as they would like. Each cohort convenes for just six weeks each academic semester.


Priority is given to girls enrolled in Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools with limited financial resources and/or limited access to similar programming in their schools or communities.

Mentors

Make a real difference from anywhere in the world by mentoring middle school girls who are passionate about STEM.

Find Your Fit

Co-Mentor a Group of Girls
Mentor a group of 5-7 middle school girls ages 10-13 for 90 minutes once a week for six weeks. During each session, you and a co-mentor will guide your mentees through discussions and activities related to that week’s topic.

Lead a Speed Mentoring/Networking Activity
Act as a “Networking Host,” providing mentees the chance to develop and practice their networking skills at community building events. During these optional bi-weekly events, mentees will explore a wide range of topics and careers by participating in speed mentoring and engaging in a variety of team-building activities led by a wide range of women leaders in STEM.

Facilitate a Mentoring Workshop
Facilitate a 15-minute mentoring workshop and share your knowledge with a full cohort of over 300 mentees and fellow mentors to close each weekly mentoring session.

Oversee the Mentoring Relationship
Monitor up to 5 mentoring circles in Zoom breakout rooms to ensure that mentees are safe and protected.

Mentor Qualifications

Play Like a Girl mentors must be:

  • Women working in STEM or related fields across all disciplines and sectors.
  • Committed to building a career-focused relationship with a group of 5-7 mentees.
  • Able to act as a role model, source of inspiration and resource person.
  • Open-minded and willing to share and learn.
  • Willing to act as a volunteer under the supervision of Play Like a Girl.
  • Pass background and reference checks.
