Join Us for Women in Aviation International’s 10th Annual Girls in Aviation Day!
The Music City Chapter of Women in Aviation International is thrilled to host its annual Girls in Aviation Day, a FREE event for girls aged 8-17. This exciting day is packed with hands-on activities and captivating displays that will spark a love for aviation.
Participants will design and test paper airplanes, explore aviation navigation through a scavenger hunt, and get hands-on experience with flight simulators led by a Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame educator. Attendees will also learn about the parts of a plane and an engine through static displays, climb into a Birddog aircraft, and discover how pilots use radios.
Special highlights include the PT-19 “Miss Cornelia” and live demonstrations from Blackhawk and Vanderbilt LifeFlight, pending confirmation. Representatives from MTSU, BNA’s Tower, and the FAA will also be on-site to inspire the next generation of aviators.
Registration (check in and backpack pickup) is at 8:00 AM, with activities following immediately from 8:30 AM until 12 PM. Lunch will NOT be provided.

Play Like a Girl will host a group of 10 girls to attend Girls in Aviation Day - Nashville. Plan to attend this fun-filled event on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.
Ticket includes lunch. Participants will earn an Aviation Fun Patch, learn about aviation careers, and meet positive women role models. Space is limited so register today!

STEM+ Saturdays is a collaborative space where middle school girls get to ideate, create and innovate with the help of women mentors. Each session is hands-on, allowing students to work in teams to design creative new solutions to real-world problems. Sign up today as space is limited!
Fly Like a Girl | August 7th
You’ve got your head in the clouds — and it’s perfectly ok! U.S. Air Force Captain Ilma Vallee will take us behind the scenes (virtually) for a look at what pilot training is like aboard a T-6 single-engine trainer aircraft simulator. Together, we’ll explore the switches, hear radio calls, watch a takeoff and landing, and experience what happens in an emergency situation when the engine fails. Heart racing yet?!
Sew with Circuits | September 11
In this workshop, you’ll learn basic hand sewing techniques while experimenting with circuits. You’ll construct a working and wearable circuit using a battery, conductive thread, conductive tape and an LED. Then, you’ll get to design a way for it to work on a purse, hat or shirt.
Batgirl Fashion | October 9th
October is Bat Appreciation Month so things get spooky this STEM+ Saturday! Bat conservationist Dr. Kristen Lear will teach us about the amazing world of bats. Plus, you’ll make your own human-sized bat wings, just in time for Halloween.
The STEM Diaries Discovery | November 6th
In this hands-on experience, future STEM superstars will learn how to create a bullet journal diary and fill the first page with information they learn from Emily Bayuk, an entrepreneur and employee for Accenture’s security team. The girls will also receive insight about being an electrical engineering student.
Hour of Code | December 4th
Cleavon Shen from Asurion will teach the principles of how modern company’s run Internet solutions without servers using the latest cloud technologies. Once you have basic knowledge you will then create your own serverless web app.
