Charitable giving is deeply personal. For our supporters who give through donor-advised funds, supporting Play Like a Girl is an investment in the confidence, connections and career possibilities every girl deserves.

Through a donor-advised fund, or DAF, supporters have turned charitable dollars already set aside for giving into free sport, mentorship and hands-on STEM career exploration for girls. Their generosity shows how donor-advised fund giving can be both intentional and deeply connected to the change a donor wants to see.

Why Supporters Choose Play Like a Girl

Play Like a Girl works with middle school girls at a moment when confidence, belonging and ideas about the future are taking shape. Our free programs combine the transferable skills girls gain through sport with mentorship and hands-on STEM career exploration. Girls meet women working across different industries, visit real workplaces, solve meaningful challenges and begin to imagine themselves in roles they may never have considered.

That combination resonates with supporters who want their generosity to create experiences girls can see, feel and build upon.

A More Intentional Way to Give

A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving account established with a sponsoring public charity, such as a community foundation or financial institution. Donors can contribute cash, securities or other eligible assets and may qualify for a charitable tax deduction when those assets are contributed. The balance can then be invested for potential tax-free growth while the donor recommends grants to eligible nonprofit organizations over time.

The sponsoring organization handles administration and grant processing, allowing donors to organize much of their charitable giving in one place. A donor can support one nonprofit or several, recommend grants when needs arise and, when the sponsor offers the option, establish recurring grants for organizations central to their values.

What a DAF Grant Makes Possible for Girls

A monthly grant from a donor-advised fund does more than support a single activity. It helps Play Like a Girl create a year-round network of experiences, relationships and resources around girls.

DAF support helps girls:

  • Build confidence, teamwork and resilience through sport.
  • Connect with women role models and mentors who expand their ideas about what is possible.
  • Explore STEM careers through workplace visits, career conversations and hands-on design challenges.
  • Develop the social capital, sense of belonging and workforce readiness needed to pursue ambitious futures.

For donors who care about supporting girls in STEM, this model connects their generosity to experiences girls can see, feel and build upon.

Because Play Like a Girl programs are free to girls, schools and families, charitable support helps remove cost as a barrier to participation. It also gives our team the dependable resources needed to train facilitators, engage corporate volunteers, coordinate transportation, purchase STEM materials and bring meaningful career exploration into more communities.

For donors, that creates a direct connection between generosity and opportunity.

Thank You to Our Donor-Advised Fund Supporters

Many people have heard the term donor-advised fund but may not realize how easily a DAF can be used to support the organizations they already care about. It can be part of a thoughtful, flexible approach to philanthropy, and a practical way to sustain work that matters.

Since fall 2025, supporters have recommended grants to Play Like a Girl through their donor-advised funds. Because these gifts often arrive through a sponsoring organization, we do not always have the chance to thank the donor in person. So we want to say it here.

If you recommended a grant to Play Like a Girl, thank you. We would love to hear from you. Contact us at [email protected] so we can thank you directly and, if you are open to it, share your story.

Your story is an invitation to consider not only how much we give, but how intentionally we put charitable resources to work.

From One Grant to Year-Round Opportunity

A one-time DAF grant can create immediate possibilities for girls. A recurring monthly DAF grant can help sustain those possibilities throughout the year.

Many DAF sponsors allow donors to schedule monthly grant recommendations. If that option is available, supporters can log in to their DAF accounts, search for Play Like a Girl and select a monthly schedule.

Recurring grants provide predictable support that helps us plan programs, maintain school partnerships and respond when new opportunities become available for girls.
